Assistant Position at University College London

NIHR-HTA funded Research Assistant Position in ACTIONS and AMICUS Studies at the Department of Mental Health Sciences University College London, The post involves working on two NIHR-HTA funded trials in schizophrenia, the ACTIONS and AMICUS studies. ACTIONS is a trial of an antidepressant (citalopram) for people with negative symptoms of schizophrenia, and AMICUS is a multi-centre placebo controlled trial investigating the risks and benefits of amisulpride, as an additional treatment to clozapine, for individuals with Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia.The post is equally divided to work on both of the trials forming one whole time position. 

The studies fit well together because they both recruit service users from similar geographical areas and the same clinical mental health teams. The post-holder will conduct clinical assessments on study participants including gathering information on a range of clinical domains, and carry out independent, in-depth clinical assessments of symptomatology, using valid and reliable rating instruments. The studies are funded by the NIHR-HTA. Funding for this post is available until March 2014 in the first instance.

Eligibility:
We are seeking a very able and motivated team member with a good degree ( at least 2.1 or above) in a subject allied to nursing, psychology or medicine. Relevant research experience is essential and clinical experience in the field of mental health and working with people with psychosis is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also essential as the post-holder will be engaging with patients with a complex clinical condition (psychosis), and will need to be empathic and sensitive.
